18 year old cold case solved

In a gruesome case spanning over 18 years, Oregon resident William Alma Miller was handed a 40-year prison sentence on October 18, 2022, for the brutal murder of Rebekah Gould in 2004. The case, initially reported by KY3, found closure after Miller pleaded guilty before Judge Tim Weaver, thus relinquishing his right to a jury trial. Rebekah Gould, a 22-year-old college student, fell victim to Miller's brutal act on September 20, 2004, when she innocently opened her boyfriend's door to Miller, who requested to use her phone. As she retreated into her room, Miller seized the opportunity to grab a piano leg from the living room and proceeded to murder her with it. He later disposed of her body along a highway on the outskirts of Melbourne, Arkansas. For more than fifteen years, the case remained unsolved until authorities identified Miller as a suspect. Subsequently, they tracked him down in Oregon and extradited him back to Arkansas to stand trial for murder as reported by KAIT. In court, Judge Weaver described Miller as "remorseless and cold," expressing hope that he would fully serve his sentence. He also vowed to oppose any parole eligibility for Miller, if it were ever proposed. During the trial, Rebekah's father, Dr. Larry Gould, delivered a heart-wrenching testimony, expressing the pain and loss caused by Miller's actions. He addressed Miller, saying, “You robbed her of her future. You stole a girl’s chance to dream. A hell you created. A hell you must face.” Dr. Gould also reminisced about his daughter, asserting that, "Rebekah lives in all of us. Love and grace are words I will remember her by." Following the sentencing, Miller offered an apology to the Gould family, expressing regret and acknowledging his need to serve prison time. Judge Weaver extended his hopes to the Gould family for finding closure after the sentence.
